Haiti Media Telethon
Written by Administrator

 Image

Thank you for your support during the recent Haiti Media Telethon.  Over $565,000 was raised to support two hospitals that St. Joseph's Health System is affiliated with in the devastated country.

The University Hospital in Port-au-Prince was demolished in the quake while St. Joseph‚s second partner hospital, Hôpital Universitaire de la Paix, is standing but lacks supplies to treat the flood of patients.

Three of St. Joseph's medical staff landed in Haiti last week. They will be assessing the situation before a team of broader medical staff is sent, St. Joseph's Health System's president and CEO said at a recent media conference.  Dr. Kevin Smith emphasized that their work in Haiti would have a durable vision.  "This won't be an in-and-out. This won't be a quick fix that makes us feel better," he said. "St. Joe's is fully in this for the long term."

You can donate to the St. Joseph's Health System International Outreach Program's Haiti Relief Fund online www.sjhs.ca or www.smgh.ca/haiti.  100% of your donation will go to relief effort supplies at Haiti Hospitals.

Cable 14 is a local specialty channel serving the Hamilton community for more than 35 years. Our viewing area includes Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, and parts of Flamborough, as well as the surrounding communities of Haldimand, Cayuga, Dunnville, Caledonia, and Binbrook.

Cable 14 is a division of TV Hamilton Ltd., an independent cable network as approved and licensed by the CRTC. We are owned and operated as a community channel by its shareholders; Cogeco Cable, Shaw, and Source Cable.

In September of 1971, the entity that we now know as Cable 14 became a reality. It began, as Cable 8, with studios located on Hester Street. Cable 8 produced programming on behalf of six cable companies and was an integral part of the community then, as it is today.

Prior to becoming Cable 14, we were Cable 4 for a short while, before moving to our present home on Dundurn Street South and our place at 14 on the channel line-up, where we have since remained.

Today, we have approximately 150,000 subscribers in our service area. Our programming mandate focuses on programs of substance and quality, and typically focuses on one central theme… Hamilton. This is paramount to acquiring, maintaining, and building viewership of our programs.

It is imperative that Cable 14 continues to provide a vehicle for the people of Hamilton and the surrounding communities to express their views, see others, and be seen as a part of the community. Through this effort, we continue to accrue goodwill back to the cable companies that provide this service to the community not because they are required to as a condition of license, but because they want to.
